Update from the 3D Translation Team
Six "Year Two SEPA Teachers" chose to work in the Center for BioMolecular Modeling this past summer, developing unique instructional materials using rapid prototyping technologies. Their project was quite amibitious: the development of a "Protein Synthesis Kit", the centerpiece of which would be 3 D models of component molecules and molecular assemblies, such as tRNA, tRNA synthetase, mRNA, and the ribosome. We are pleased to report that in just a few short weeks, this Team has successfully produced the physical models of all components, including first-ever models of the two ribosomal subunits. The members of this outstanding team are:
- Donnie Case (Wauwatosa West High School)
- Karen DeBoer (Kettle Moraine High School)
- Dean Dolence (Rufus King High School)
- Jon Knopp (recently retired from Rufus King High School)
- Donna LaFlamme (St. Dominic's High School)
- Pete Nielsen (Kettle Moraine High School)
